I was astounded at the beauty of this cemetery. It’s truly magical. Unlike most cemeteries, where each grave bears a simple tombstone, most of the graves here are ornamented with beautiful statues – some representing the person, others artistic or eclectic, and still more portraying religious figures like the Virgin Mary or saints. In amongst these aging statues are Communist period statues and memorials, and they’re not too difficult to spot. Generally, they’re the ugly ones. This cemetery has long been the final resting place of Lviv’s intelligensia and upper classes.
I don’t know how to describe this cemetery in words, so I’ll do it in pictures.
